North Dakota Economic Development Foundation Announces New Board Members

Commerce Commissioner Jay Schuler announced two new members of the North Dakota Economic Development Foundation board today, Linda Butts, past director of Economic Development and Finance at the North Dakota Department of Commerce; and Erik Diederich
 
“Linda and Erik bring a wealth of experience and understanding of the business community and will be great additions to our board.” Schuler said. “They will provide guidance, helping us to create strategic plans to strengthen and broaden North Dakota’s economic development."
 
Butts is the past director of Economic Development and Finance at the North Dakota Department of Commerce. She was appointed by former President George W. Bush to serve on the Strengthen American’s Communities Initiative. She also served as the head of North Dakota’s Driver and Vehicle Services of the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Butts was named North Dakota Women in Business Champion of the Year by the Small Business Administration, co-chaired the state’s delegation to the White House Conference on Small Business and was twice named North Dakota’s Outstanding Woman-Owned Business.
 
Diederich is the Director of Business Development for Industrial Builders, Inc., a third generation, family owned, general contracting company based in West Fargo focusing on heavy civil construction. While attending North Dakota State University earning his bachelor’s degree in construction management, Diederich had the opportunity to work at the Kilbourne Group in Fargo. He currently sits on the NDSCS Building Construction Technology Industry Advisory Board, “Team ND,” and the YoungLife of Fargo/Moorhead Board of Directors.
 
The North Dakota Economic Development Foundation is a private foundation established by the Legislature in 2001 to provide private-sector guidance and oversight of the state's economic development efforts. The Foundation board helps create strategic plans to strengthen and broaden North Dakota’s economic development.
 
The Foundation establishes and maintains a strategic plan for economic development managed by business leaders from all corners of the state. The board meets quarterly to monitor progress toward economic development goals, to discuss major business and economic issues, and to offer suggestions for improving North Dakota's business climate. Each member of the board serves a two-year term.
 
The North Dakota Department of Commerce works to improve the quality of life for North Dakota citizens by leading efforts to attract, retain and expand wealth. Commerce serves businesses and communities statewide through committed people and partners who offer valuable programs and dynamic services.
